Understanding Your Bill

A Simple Guide to Your Monthly Statement

We believe that understanding your monthly Wheatland Electric bill should be clear and straightforward. This page serves as your comprehensive guide, breaking down the key components of your statement—from energy usage and service charges to taxes and co-op specific fees. Our goal is to empower you to read your bill with confidence, allowing you to easily track your energy consumption and manage your account.

Understanding Your Electric Bill

Your monthly usage is determined by an automated meter reading system (AMR) which is read on the first of each month. Monthly bills are mailed around the 12th of the month, and payments are due by the 5th of the following month. If your payment is not received by the 5th, your account will be charged a penalty ($5 for bills up to $250; 2% for bills over $250). It is important to note that all accounts are subject to disconnection if payments are not received by the due date.

Understanding Demand

The Demand Charge is something you, our cooperative member, can control. Demand is the rate of energy used at any given point in time and is measured by the highest rate at which a member uses electricity during a 15-minute period and is billed accordingly. The demand charge will be billed on the highest demand registered during the billing period. Each member’s monthly demand is printed on their billing statement, as illustrated in the graphics above. We encourage members to review past bills, monitor current bills and understand what impacts your demand each month.
