Fighting Hunger in Our Communities
At Wheatland Electric Cooperative, Inc., we're dedicated to the Seventh Cooperative Principle: Concern for Community. Through Power the Pantry, we partner with our co-op members to combat food insecurity and provide critical support to a dozen local food banks across our service territory.
Why Monetary Donations?
Following a successful decade of food collection through Cram the Van (now Power the Pantry), we shifted to an emphasis on monetary donations in 2023. Cash donations allow local food banks to purchase items they need most, often at wholesale prices, which maximizes the impact of every dollar donated.
2025: Help Us Reach Our Goal!
Wheatland Electric proudly committed another $50,000 to support local food banks in 2025. We challenged our members to help us DOUBLE that contribution and make a record-breaking impact:
- Commitment: Wheatland Electric is contributing $50,000 to local food banks.
- Your Donation: Every $20 you donated by October 9, 2025, went directly to local hunger relief efforts.
- The Prize: For every $20 donated, members were entered into a drawing to WIN 4 tickets to the Kansas State vs. Kansas football game in Lawrence on October 25, 2025!

A Legacy of Generosity
Thanks to the incredible generosity of our members, Power the Pantry builds upon a strong history of giving:
- 279+ Tons of Food: Since 2014, our annual fall campaign (formerly known as Cram the Van) has helped collect over 279 tons (558,183 pounds) of food ($1 = 1 lb. of food), distributed directly to local pantries across our service territory.
- Record-setting impact: In 2023, the first year we shifted toward collecting monetary donations, we nearly doubled our fundraising impact by raising $90,785 in combined cash and food donations for our food banks. $50,000 of those dollars were donated by Wheatland Electric.
Together, WE can power the pantry and make a difference in the lives of our neighbors in need.
