Scott City Middle School Receives $3,800 Sharing Success Grant

Scott City, Kan. – Wheatland Electric Cooperative, Inc. (WEC) announced today that Scott City Middle School has been awarded a $3,800 grant from the WEC Sharing Success Fund to help purchase a class set of Sphero robots for STEM and robotics.

The class set will include 15 robots, a power pack, and a grid mat. All sixth-grade students enrolled in STEM class will be able to use the robots, as well as students in grades 3-8 who participate in the robotics club. The robotics club averages 15-20 students each year, with the season running from September through the end of March concluding with a tournament in Hays, Kan. The Scott City Middle School Science Department is dedicated to cultivating curiosity, critical thinking and a love for science in students.

The Scott Community Foundation began formally accepting applications for grants from the WEC Sharing Success Fund from community-based organizations on December 1, 2012. Since then, the application process has been moved internally and is currently handled directly by WEC. This year, WEC and CoBank have once again each contributed $15,000 to the fund. The program will continue to run until the funds are exhausted. Since 2012, WEC’s Sharing Success Fund has made $225,000 available to community-based organizations and projects across their service territory.
