Melven O. Kuder Senior Center Receives $5,000 Sharing Success Grant

Tribune, Kan. – Wheatland Electric Cooperative, Inc. (WEC) announced today that the Melven O. Kuder Senior Center has been awarded a $5,000 grant from the WEC Sharing Success Fund to help purchase new energy efficient storefront windows.

The grant will help fund a project estimated to cost approximately $25,000 to replace six storefront windows. The senior center plans to begin the project as soon as funding is secured, with the goal of completing the work before winter. They will continue seeking grants, donations and other support until the project's funding goal is reached.

The Melven O. Kuder Senior Center exists to improve the lives of mature adults through education, exercise and social interaction. The facility is used nearly every day of the year, often for more than 16 hours a day, serving as a venue for daily activities, exercise programs, educational opportunities, community events, private gatherings and seasonal celebrations.

The Scott Community Foundation began formally accepting applications for grants from the WEC Sharing Success Fund from community-based organizations on December 1, 2012. Since then, the application process has been moved internally and is currently handled directly by WEC. This year, WEC and CoBank have once again each contributed $15,000 to the fund. The program will continue to run until the funds are exhausted. Since 2012, WEC’s Sharing Success Fund has made $225,000 available to community-based organizations and projects across their service territory.
