The state of Kansas is expanding eligibility criteria for households that need to apply for energy assistance and extending the deadline to apply, too.

The Low Income Energy Assistance Program, known as LIEAP, is a federally funded program that helps eligible households pay portion of their home energy costs by providing a one-time per year benefit.

The 2021 LIEAP application deadline was originally March 31 but has now been extended to May 28, 2021.

The eligibility criteria has also been expanded from 130% of the federal poverty level to 150%, which means more households can now apply for energy assistance.
