Conway Springs Community Concerns Quilting Receives $1,000 Sharing Success Grant
Wheatland Electric Cooperative, Inc. announced today that Community Concerns Quilting has been awarded a $1,000 grant from the Sharing Success Fund to support the purchase of quilt batting and other materials used in the creation of handmade quilts for individuals and families in need.
Community Concerns Quilting is a dedicated group of volunteers from Conway Springs and surrounding communities who meet monthly to create quilts that are donated to local nonprofit organizations. These quilts are then distributed free of charge to individuals served by those organizations, as well as to community members who have experienced hardship, loss, or other difficult circumstances.
While fabric and other quilting supplies are generously donated, the group must purchase batting to complete each quilt. On average, Community Concerns Quilting uses more than one roll of batting per month, with each roll costing nearly $200. The Sharing Success grant will be used directly to offset the cost of this essential material, helping ensure the group can continue its mission without interruption.
By supporting the purchase of batting, the grant helps Community Concerns Quilting continue providing warmth, comfort, and encouragement to those who need it most. Each quilt serves not only as a practical gift, but also as a tangible reminder that the community cares.
The Scott Community Foundation began formally accepting applications for grants from the WEC Sharing Success Fund from community-based organizations on December 1, 2012. Since then, the application process has been moved internally and is currently handled directly by WEC. This year, WEC and CoBank have once again each contributed $10,000 to the fund. The program will continue to run until the funds are exhausted. Since 2012, WEC’s Sharing Success Fund has made $195,000 available to community-based organizations and projects across their service territory.
Community based organizations interested in receiving funding from the WEC Sharing Success Fund can apply online. Questions should be referred to Alli Conine, director of member services and corporate communications, at 620-874-4563 or aconine@weci.net.
