Every Farmer Counts! National Farm Safety & Health Week 2020

All News

Since at least 1944, the third week in September has been recognized as National Farm Safety and Health Week by national leaders who care about America’s farmers and ranchers.

That’s because these hard-working individuals produce the essentials – food, fiber, fuel, and more – that we rely on daily.

This year’s theme – “Every Farmer Counts” – is aimed at acknowledging, celebrating, and uplifting these essential workers who encounter many challenges yet continue to power on to feed and supply their friends, neighbors, and communities at large.

This upcoming week – Sept. 20-26, 2020 – we’re here to recognize the individual and collective efforts of our agricultural producers and share safety tips each day with our membership.

In fact, fall harvest can be one of the busiest and most dangerous seasons of the year. According to the National Education Center for Agricultural Safety, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics indicates that the agricultural sector is still the most dangerous in America. Out of 3.4 million agricultural producers across the country, there were at least 574 fatalities in 2018 alone, an equivalent of about 23 deaths per 100,000 workers.

As we recognize National Farm Safety and Health Week, follow us on social media for a new tip each day and join us in spreading awareness of the risks associated with working in agriculture and promoting safe and healthy practices through the harvest season and beyond.
