Fall is in the air, which must mean one thing: Cram the Van is back!
Once again, we’ll be taking our big ole red van across our southwest and southcentral Kansas communities to pack it as tight as we can with donations for those in need.
This October we’ll be in your community to collect donations for our signature annual food drive.
The donations we collect are then distributed to families through your local food bank. In return for your donation – can or cash – we’ll be grilling hamburgers and hot dogs for you and your crew!
Of course, in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, we’re doing things a little bit differently this year to ensure both your safety and ours. For one, we’ll be hosting our Cram the Van drive-in style this fall.
We hope you’ll join us at one of the following locations to drop off your food or monetary donation and pick up a to-go meal (burger or dog, chips, and a cookie) without having to exit your vehicle.
-
OCT. 13 – SCOTT CITY Between Wheatland Electric’s Warehouse (125 S. Main St.) and Wheatland Electric Office (101 S. Main St.)
-
OCT. 16 – GREAT BEND Great Bend Events Center parking lot (3111 10th St.)
-
OCT. 19 – TRIBUNE Behind Gooch’s Foods (503 Broadway Ave.)
-
OCT. 22 – SYRACUSE Corner of Main Street and Avenue B (Green space by the Wheatland Electric Office, 206 N. Main St.)
-
OCT. 26 – LEOTI Parking lot across from Wheatland Electric Office (North Highway 25)
-
OCT. 28 – HARPER Parking lot at Wheatland Electric Office (906 Central)
In addition to standard safety steps, employees and volunteers will also be wearing masks and encouraging everyone in attendance to maintain a safe social distance.
Secondly, we’re introducing a new way to make your Cram the Van contribution this year – online!
Monetary donations both large and small can be made quickly and easily online at www.weci.net or by visiting https://donorbox.org/cram-the-van. Donors will be able to select their local food bank (or another agency of their choice) when making an online donation.
We hope you’ll join us at one of our locations this October! Please bring your canned food or cash donation and grab your to-go meal.
Since 2014, we’ve collected over 47 tons (95,527 lbs.) of food through Cram the Van events, school competitions, and more. Of course, this would not be possible without the generous support of our members, partners, and volunteers.
At Wheatland Electric, we’re proud to continue delivering energy for life to our communities across our service territory and giving back – because that’s what co-ops do!
