Sunflower Electro Rally Race
Wheatland Electric is committed to working with youth in our community and one of our favorite ways to do that is by sponsoring teams that are part of the Kansas ElectroRally. Wheatland and Sunflower Electric help to sponsor the Sunflower ElectroRally races held at the Scott City Airport every Spring. After all, the races are all about the savvy use of electricity —and we know electricity!
Every year, high school teams race electric vehicles of their own design. They build and drive them too! The cars are typically made of aluminum and have 3 or 4 bicycle tires as their wheels. Amazingly, these hand-crafted vehicles often go 30 miles per hour —or more— because they’re so light, efficient and aerodynamic.
In addition to sponsoring several teams, Wheatland Electric employees help set up the race course before the excitement and break it down after the victors have gone home. They also lend a hand in the food tent, grilling hamburgers and hotdogs for competitors and fans alike.
It's Scott City's version of Nascar and we're proud to play a part!
